This 82-acre future park
site is located at 7301 McIntosh Road in the residential
community of Palmer Ranch. This park will provide
recreational amenities such as nature trails, access to
the Legacy Trail, a community garden and picnic areas.
Background
Sarasota County and Palmer Ranch have partnered together to
ensure that the future Culverhouse Nature Park (formerly known
as Palmer Ranch Parcel B-10) is used as a public park area that
preserves and protects its natural features but also allows for
outdoor recreation and educational opportunities. In 2010,
Sarasota County partnered with community stakeholders to help
plan for and provide public input on the future improvements to
the park site. A public meeting was held on April 1, 2010, to
also share ideas, opportunities, constraints, and proposed
improvements. On July 28, 2010, the Sarasota County Commission
approved the park concept plan. The documents below were
discussed at the public meeting.

Culverhouse Park Site, Approved Concept Plan

On July 26, 2011, the Sarasota
County Commission formerly accepted the generous donation of the
82-acre site (formerly known as Palmer Ranch Parcel B-10) by
Hugh and Eliza Culverhouse. In recognition and appreciation of
the significant contribution, the Sarasota County Commission
honors the donation by naming the park “Culverhouse Nature
Park.”
Next Steps:
- Design for vehicular access
into the park from McIntosh Road is underway. Construction
for the access is expected to begin this summer.
- Preliminary (phase 1) park
improvements will include access (via McIntosh Road), signage, fencing,
grass parking and a
portion of the property to be used as a community garden.
Access to The Legacy Trail will also be available.
- As funding becomes
available, additional park improvements as shown on the
approved park concept plan will be designed and constructed
